This is the writer's fourth Cajun murder mystery based in the fictional St. Beatrice Parish, close to the vast Atchafalaya Swamp, Louisiana. Edmond Dantés Mallet, a St. Beatrice cop is on administrative leave because he had to shoot a man while on duty. He accompanies his wife to her twenty year class reunion on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Bored, he becomes interested in the cold-case murder of one of her classmates, never realizing how close to home this investigation will lead. To further complicate matters, threatening situations are developing back in Louisiana.
