Today, Australia is a popular tourist spot. In 1885, this wasn’t the case. But this doesn’t stop Charles Todd from taking his new bride Alice there to start a life away from the safety of Victorian England. From their new home in South Australia, it took five months for a letter to arrive in England. Charles decided to improve this, and started a line from Adelaide in the south to Darwin in the north.
