In the aftermath of the Team's operations described in Body Leggers, their situation has become precarious, with all those members not in the Team's secret hideout instructed to lie low and cease all current operations, unless emergencies dictate otherwise. Rachel, who is a member of MIT's Quest Core lab, is one of those affected, and Lucién—head programmer at the Team's HQ, who has virtually no experience as a field operative—is sent to Cambridge MA to extract her without attracting the now-very-intense attention of US intelligence agencies. Rachel and Lucién have worked together for a long time; but for security purposes they don't actually know each other, except by written messages and carefully distorted voices.. A daunting task lies ahead, made even more dangerous because the complex network of organizations the Team thought they had effectively destroyed is only crippled and very much recovering from its wounds. This is the second novel about the Team, its members, their lives and loves; as well as the problems they have to confront, as they do their best to remain true to their creed and guard the secret that makes them the targets of every governmental and criminal organization alike. While it can be read as a standalone—background is filled in as required during the story—reading Body Leggers first is highly recommended.
