Ujjal Dosanjh and the woman who became his wife, Raminder Sandhu, were young immigrants who arrived from India in the late 1960s without money, prestige or status. After meeting at Vancouver City College, they began their fi ght for the rights of immigrant women, the just treatment of farm workers, and social justice for all. Through organizations such as the India Mahila Association and the Labour Advocacy Research Association, they stood up against racial discrimination and religious persecution.
Struggling to overcome the usual hurdles faced by immigrants, Ujjal and “Rummy” would also face a much darker menace— terrorist elements within their own community. Their journey is an inspiring story about the power of family and the importance of friends. About two people with the courage to face death threats without intimidation, with a fierce determination to see justice served and to never give up – to remain strong and unbroken. It is also a story of strong, enduring love, for their friends, for each other, for their families and children, and for their country—not just one country but two, Canada and India.
