'The Dutch in Wartime: Survivors Remember' is a series of books containing the wartime memories of Dutch immigrants to Canada and the USA, who survived Nazi occupation of the Netherlands from 1940 to 1945. In book 2, 'Under Nazi Rule' it becomes clear how the Nazi occupation interfered with every aspect of daily life. We read of years of lost schooling, food rationing, blackouts and curfews and of permanent fear. The danger of becoming a civilian casualty of war, either because of air raids and battles, or because of Nazi terror was ever present.
