The profound impacts of climate change on human health are now beginning to be recognized. To mitigate the serious effects-direct and indirect-on health, it is important to undertake research that can identify the interlinkages between climate change and human health. Research-based evidence is urgently needed to understand how climate change impacts the health of people and their environment. Recognizing the urgent need for research, the editors of this volume have examined the evidence available in developed and developing countries to assess the processes that bring about change. This is the third of a series of books published by the editors on health and climate change. It is hoped that by examining the results of these research studies, we will be able to design interventions to prevent the negative impacts of climate change on human health. Eminent scholars from developed and developing countries have contributed chapters to this book, which addresses various health and climate change issues. Issues addressed by the authors of this volume include knowledge among Indigenous peoples who have traditional knowledge and understanding of how a balance can be maintained between human health and the health of plants and animals, who together form the web of life. The authors also examine the impact of increasing environmental contaminants on health. The far-reaching impacts of environmental contaminants on health are assessed. The human right to water is examined along with the commodification of water and its negative effect on the full enjoyment of the human right to water. This volume explores the multifaceted impacts of climate change on human health. It examines mitigation strategies, including urban planning, technological advancements, and targeted public health interventions, to combat the problems. Thus, the authors of this book delve into a range of problems related to climate change and human health and suggest innovative strategies for addressing them. They provide a significant body of knowledge to advance our efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on human health.
